An Tairseach: Samhain ar Uisneach
As the last light of the year fades and Samhain settles over the Hill, Uisneach invites you to celebrate with them at
An Tairseach: Samhain ar Uisneach, a special two-day celebration of fire, folklore, music, memory and the living traditions of Ireland’s ancient past, on
Saturday 7th November from 2.00 pm to 11.00 pm and
Sunday 8th November from 7.00 am to 12.00 noon.
An Tairseach = The Threshold. At Samhain, the threshold is everywhere; between harvest and winter, light and dark, the old year and the new. It is the time when the veil is said to be thinnest, when the world of our ancestors draws close, and when story, song, ritual and flame carry meaning in a deeper way.
Across the weekend, the Hill will come alive with, music, storytelling, tours. heritage exhibitions, traditional skills, demonstrations and special performances, with further artists and acts to be announced. They will also remember Manchán Magan, whose work listened deeply to the language, memory and spirit of the land, with a special screening of Listen to the Land Speak as part of the programme. They were honoured to have Aisling Rogerson, the wife of Manchan, light the sacred Samhain fire in 2025.
As darkness falls on Saturday evening, the gathering moves towards its crescendo. Visitors will be invited to join the procession on the Hill before the lighting of the mighty Samhain bonfire, a shared moment of flame, memory and celebration at one of Ireland’s most important cultural and heritage sites.
