This website is managed by Westmeath County Council, a Local Government organisation, which was established under the Local Government (Ireland) Act 1898. The administrative headquarters of Westmeath County Council are in Mullingar and a Civic Centre is located in the centre of Athlone.
The Council is mandated to deliver a diverse range of functions and services, including economic development, community development, the provision of physical and social infrastructure, recreation and amenity services and the enforcement of the planning and environmental regulatory framework.
Tourism is part of the Local Enterprise Office and includes the development and promotion of the county for tourism, including the development of infrastructure to create and enhance high quality visitor experiences.
