The Westmeath Way
The Westmeath Way is a longer linear 33km route starting behind Kilbeggan Distillery Museum and finishing at the Harbour Bridge in Mullingar.
The route follows the banks of the River Brosna and quiet rural roads towards Lilliput on the shores of Lough Ennell. Jonathan Swift is said to have stayed with friends on the lake’s shore and used the name for his fantasy island in Gulliver’s Travels. The route finishes at Mullingar, where walkers can join the Old Rail Trail to Athlone or the Royal Canal Greenway eastwards to Dublin or north westwards to Longford and the River Shannon.
